Our Dementia Services
Our Dementia Integration and Link project [DIAL] aims to support people to live as well as possible with dementia through participation in stimulating and/or social activities.
DIAL has generously been funded by the Big Lottery and will run until September 2019. Research demonstrates that physical activity and techniques such as cognitive stimulation therapy and reminiscence therapy can slow the progress of dementia, all whilst improving the quality of life for the individual.
Through DIAL, we get to know the individuals that we work with; we find out about their current circumstances and personal interests and creatively work to re-ignite past interests and hobbies that can be adapted to people’s needs today or explore new activities that help to get people out of their homes and engaging with their local the community.
The majority of our work is on a 1:1 basis and we offer support for a couple of hours a week. We also host activities within some care homes, helping to inspire staff with ideas for activities that can help to engage people with dementia and provide enjoyable, stimulating and fun events.
Some activities that we have explored with participants have ranged from painting, crafts, visiting local cafés, reconnecting with friends, sporting activities, music concerts and a climbing course.
